Suntera Global has sponsored one of the giant sculptures set to feature in the major new ‘Tortoise Takeover’ island-wide trail this year, organised to raise funds for a new Tropical House at Jersey Zoo.
The trail, orchestrated by Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and public art producer ‘Wild in Art’, will see 50 giant tortoises, designed by artists from Jersey and further afield, situated in wild and urban spaces across the island this summer (1 July until 31 August).
In tandem, a further 65 young tortoise sculptures, decorated by schools and community groups, will be displayed in indoor locations across the Island, with the public art trail providing people with an opportunity not only to enjoy the tortoise sculptures themselves, but also the environments in which they are placed.
All funds raised will go towards creating an environmentally friendly, modern and sustainable Tropical House at Jersey Zoo, to house the many species of threatened reptiles and amphibians cared for by Durrell in an optimal environment.
The team at Suntera will now work with Durrell and a selected artist to design the unique giant tortoise sculpture before it is unveiled in July.
The sponsorship is the third event of its kind supported by Suntera; last year the global service provider sponsored the ‘Dolphin Trail’ in the Isle of Man.

In addition to the trail there will be a ‘Tortoise Takeover Farewell’ event at Jersey Zoo from 14 – 17 September before the giant tortoise sculptures are auctioned to raise further funds for the Tropical House.
