About the Role

In this role, you will assist the Compliance Manager in maintaining an excellent compliance program for the Suntera Fund Services division. You will also act as the outsourced designated AML Compliance Officer and MLRO/Deputy MLRO where required for client structures.

You will own, maintain, and execute the compliance framework and compliance program for clients. You will also proactively support the Compliance Manager in maintaining and executing the compliance framework and compliance program for Suntera Fund Services, working closely and collaboratively with all Suntera Cayman teams.

You will also hold the designations as outsourced anti-money laundering officers (AML Officer) including anti-money laundering compliance officer (AMLCO) and money-laundering reporting officer (MLRO and DMLRO) roles.

Your AMLCO duties include:

  • Client identification and verification procedures, including collection and review of investor documentation as well as sanctions screening and ongoing monitoring;
  • Develop and maintain the fund’s systems and controls to prevent money laundering (“ML”) and terrorist financing (“TF”);
  • Report periodically to the Board on the fund’s systems and controls
  • Respond promptly to requests for information from the relevant competent authorities;
  • Maintain logs, for example those with respect to politically exposed persons and requests from relevant competent authorities;
  • Advise the Board on AML/CFT compliance issues that require attention;
  • Ensure regular audits of the AML/CFT program; and
  • Assisting with AML remediation projects, internal audits, and regulatory inspections General compliance support and tailored in-house training.

Your MLRO/DMLRO duties include:

  • Be the point of contact for all suspicious activity reports;
  • Review and consider all suspicious activity reports to determine whether or not they give rise to knowledge or suspicion of ML/TF; and
  • Report suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.

In supporting the Compliance Manager, your duties include:

  • Assist in the development, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the compliance/risk processes on fund sponsors, investors, trustee, and service providers contracted by Suntera Global Cayman in its capacity as Trustee and Administrator;
  • Assist in the development of appropriate compliance-related policies and procedures;
  • Execute the Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering Monitoring program and associated reporting, including periodic and regular reviews of business activities; and
  • Support the compliance team with conducting file reviews, performing transaction monitoring and assisting with onboarding new business. 

About you

You will be a highly organised individual with a minimum of five years of experience in a compliance/risk management, audit and/or financial services firm. You must have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to address challenging and at times contentious situations. The following attributes would also be advantageous:

  • Compliance certification/qualification would be preferred, with appropriate designations as a compliance professional, professional designation in other appropriate areas such as law, risk management and/or audit
    Good knowledge of the Cayman Islands Mutual Funds Act and Private Funds Act, Proceeds of Crime Law, and other applicable knowledge regulations;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good working knowledge of private funds, alternative investments and other fund types administered in the Cayman Islands;
  • Highly organised and flexible, with proven ability to multitask and manage multiple projects effectively;
  • Ability to write detailed policy and procedures manuals from a compliance perspective;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, diplomatic, able to encourage action and obtain information effectively but tactfully; and  
  • The ability to accept accountability, assume proactive leadership, demonstrate initiative, and lead by example in teamwork, cross-unit co-operations, and information sharing.
